Helping Others Cope with Pressures/Influences of Family Members
Post one way college freshmen can deal with family pressures/influences.
Important: if someone has posted a comment about the pressure/influence you want to write about, reply to his or her comment instead of creating a new post.
I think if a new college student has a lot going on at home and is feeling a lot of pressure, they can deal with it by finding an outlet that will also benefit them educationally. If they don't want to be home, it might help them to join a club they are interested in at school. That way they meet new people. learn new things, and get to know the campus better and at the same time, avoid stress at home.
I believe a college student don't want to be the whole time at home because problems or maybe don't want to do chores or just because he/she feel older to be with their parents anymore so all that pressure as you said they can take out by doing new things such as getting to meet new friend and join their favorite sport that way their pressure would be less and can deal more softly their problems at home and have more opportunity to be calm with their families
I agree and think your example is valid. Unfortunately, there is college students who struggle through a rough life, they have to provide for their family and it can become stressful. By joining a club at school it'll distract their mind and keep them focused in school. The pressure will not be constantly on there mind. Mayra Torres- INRW 0302
I agree on what you are saying but what if you have strict parents like i do and dont let you do anything like go out, be in a club, sports anything and just want you in their site at all time? what would i do then? Also if i try moving out they say their going to put my boyfriend in prison, just because i have family members who can make it happen.. So i cant avoid stress at home no matter how hard i try. Astrid Gonzalez INRW 0302
I agree on what you trying to say but, what if you have a family to take care of what would you do there? I agree if you have a lot going on at home you should be able to be at school as much as you can, try new things, meet new people, and get involve in sports. But like I said earlier, what if you have a family you need to be at home, and work things out so you won't be as stress out.
I agree because if someone is distracted by outside things from their family then they don't have to deal with the problem at that time and would be able to work on school and focus on school more.
Ashley Arizmendez If a student at home has a lot of stuff to do and a lot of things going on. They should be able to remaine in school at all time,s even if they miss days. Because you never know what they are going threw at home. Like me am a full time student in college, but i have three kids and have a full house at home. Not at all easy when no one gets along in it. It not easy for the ones who have proublems at home. From experance i have , but i will not give up. Keep it going no matter what going on in your life, don't give up!! Thank You for reading
This I totally understand, I just have one kid and it's hard enough let alone three. It is tough for anyone going to college with kids to get into the groove of time management. I have had to force myself from times where I wanted to have fun to go to time management courses and how to study courses. So that for me eases the home work issues because I know how to fit all of it in my schedule. To relieve stress, from what I learn in yoga is find something that brings peace to you. Whether it be you take a step back and take a few deep breathes, or taking some anger out by doing some sorta sport or even something creative like painting. I also find that I relieve some stress when I get my best girl friend over and just talk it out..see what I can do to help my situation.
I understand, I have four boys at home and that is hard while going to school. They don't get along and fight all the time. I have to find time when 3 of them are at school and one is home to even get my homework done which is hard because he is the baby and has time with me alone now with out his brothers. It is good for me to relive stress by getting a close friend over and just talk about what is going on in life.
First if a freshmen is having trouble at home, they need to be able to work around that. Second they need to be able to talk to there family. Engage, let them know whats going on in your life. Third, just stick in there your in college it's going to be hard all over, it's time to be an adult. You can do it. Prove to yourself that no one can stop you! Thanks.
I think before even attending school you should kind of get an idea what your schedule is before spending money ,not saying you shouldnt go to college.Work should be less important than school ,work should be able to work around your school schedule yes it may be stressful and you do get overwhelmed ,but that all comes with managing your time. If you are having problems at home there are mostly likely always solutions to them you just cant give up and some teachers may not care so you have to get it done. IRNW0302 Victoria Vega
I believe that there is a way for everyone so they can work through their problems and get through school. It may take time and a lot of effort, but if it's taking a lot of stress off your shoulders and solving very difficult problems, it's worth it.
Yes, I am agree with you Emily that there is always a way or solution for any problem. However, in order to find a solution, a person needs to be creative and have the ability to handle some difficult situations wisely.Hence, if a person acts like a creator then he or she will not going to have so much pressure or stress about family members or about any other aspect of his or her life.
If someone is having home troubles, I believe they should talk to someone. it's never fun going through tough situations alone, everyone needs a support system and a backbone.
One way college freshman can cope with family pressure/ influence is to go and talk to a counselor. Many people become overwhelmed and do not have anyone to talk to. However, colleges offer students access to counselors that can help them through even the smallest problem. Not only should they meet with a counselor, but they should also sit down with their parents and discuss their problems they are facing.
I agree with Brittany. Speaking to a counselor is a a very good way to cope with family pressure/influence. Sometimes family may not be able to help you or may not understand what you are going through as a freshman in college. Counselors are to be reached out to when you need any kind of help. Counselors will listen to you and than give you advice on what or how you should handle a situation. Jazmin Fernandez GUST0305
I also agree with Brittany, because a counselor can help you with family pressure/ influence. Family sometimes don't understand how pressured you are, and might make you even more mad or fustrated. Family memebers can help with somethings, but counselors can help with any problem just like Brittany said. Brittany Tillman INRW 0302
I agree with Brittany, because a couselor should guide a student with any family pressure / influence. Mostly my father does not understand the stress and pressure to be 100% in school. Even the outcome of not been understand able make me have negative feelings against my father and sometimes wish hw could be on my shoes one day to know the stress and pressure. Sonetimes the more supportive in the familly is my mom to keep up and not worry . Couselors are as great help by listen your family problems and find ways to easy path by giving advices. Eliza Ceballos INRW 0302
I agree with Brittany, because speaking with someone about a problem you have is always positive because many students don't have that communication in their house and a counselor can help a student solve a question or a problem , communication is always a good way to try to solve a problem.
Stress and pressure will be a part of everyone's life and it will not get easier as the time passes. It's best to get your house in order before you make a leap to higher education. simply put think ahead.True success comes from sacrifice. Those who want you to better your self will help with the kids, clean up, and let you study and get work done.concentrate on those who help you on your path to success and those who will not,oh well.
I totally agree with Jack that stress and pressure is a part of everyone's life and the best way is to get your house situated before moving further to higher education. For those whom sympathize and support you to be success, they will do best to help you with kids, maintain the house, and share your pressure by taking care of you. However, you are mainly responsible for your school stress. If you learn actively with well management your school work or do your part, you will not pass the pressure and stress to your family. If you do so, you might be able to help your family's member too.
I totally agree with you stress can really affect you in your school work, can cause you to fail your classes. But you have to know how to manage your time more wisely and have time to do everything. Family members can really help alot you just have to sit down talk with them and explain to them you situation.
One way a freshmen can deal with Stress from their family is by talking to them about how you feel. I believe commintication is the key to success. You need to let people know whats bothering you so together y'all can find a solution. Another way is to stay away from home and fo you work at school. If you find yourself stressing at home and can't concentrate find a place where you can block all your problems and focus on your education. You can also join a study group where you can get a lot of help from fellow students who are willing to help you out. Tanya Rodriguez Gust0305
I agree with your asssertion about communication is the key to success. Without communication and having a lot of questions will leave you in the same spot you started. It is always good to find that comfot zone to get all your stuff done without being ditracted easily.
Being a freshman is not that bad well for me maybe for others it is because I mean others have more pressure than others but is all about clearing your mind and taking it step by step and having good communication.
Stress is unenviable, pressure will be the same. Sometimes family can give a student alot of stress, especially when it comes to school work because they expect so much from one. One way to cope with this problem is to think about what the future has in store for YOU. If you feel as if your family is asking for too much and is pressuring you then be sure to speak up, keep communication open and make sure they know how you feel.
Stress & Pressure is about the same. They can have an effect on anyone. I agree if you just focus on your future then maybe the stress and there pressure of everything will subside. Things we do in life aren't always going to be easy. talking about it sometimes help but sometimes if can just make things even worst. We go through alot as students but even more some as we do outside of classes. Life is always moving ahead and sometime we are always behind.
Stress and pressure will effect you the same way. I agree that family can cause a lot of stress and pressure when it comes to school because they want you to do the best and they expect the best. Some kids really do their absolute best and their parents still expect more from them. The main way to cope with this is communication. I agree that they need to stand up and speak for themselves. They need to let their parents know how they really feel.
Being a freshman is not as bad as i thought. I did have some pressure from family and friends when it came to school. My friends are already done with school and i was the only one not trying to better myself. I would get very frustrated because i was afraid of college. I'm not really sure why because it's feels very comfortable. I kept thinking about the future and where i would be with out an education. I don't have any pressure anymore about school. I worry about ME now.
Speaking of your pressure from your family and friends, do not focus on it. I believe you do focus on your own goal. Don't let other people judge you, instead, stand for yourself and show them that you can achieve your own goal. Each of us faces our own success in life, if your family or friends did it already, then this is the time for you to do your goal to finish in college. If someone in your life or a friend again, influence you to be afraid in college, don't let that someone ruin your goal, don't listen to them, instead listen to your inner guide. Always be positive and think about you can do it and fix your own frustration because at the end of the day, you will achieve your goal. Only you that own yourself and not others. Always remember, if you work hard, you achieve and if you achieve you become successful in your future.
being a freshman is not to bad but it could be better its hard because its not high school and you don't have the support that you will pass no matter what you have to give it your all to pass. dealing with my family problems on top of school is a big big challenge for me but i have just learned ti brush it off and do all my school work and just deal with it later or get over it. brittany mcghee gust 0305
i understand were you're coming from, freshman year wasn't to bad for me either, and yes its way different then highschool, its all on you to make whats best for your future. The teachers do care about you but they could care less if you come to class because its your choices now. Family problems were a big issue for me as well but i brushed it off like you brittany and just focused on school. Stay focused and stay positive and everything will go your way.
I agree with your comment, being a college freshman wasn't so bad at all. But getting to the classes was a bit challenging, and the subjects are hard as heck. Also its not even the same as high school because I was used to the things that were there, but those years are over and have to become a college student now. but I'll get over it soon.
For me personally I had a rough freshman year I had to essentially live at school and no one gave me any support or help when I was in obvious need. "So whats your advice joey?" well I will tell you, don't overwhelm your self don't try and do everything. As far as trouble at home; find ways to get away from it while at the same time being able to do your homework at the same time find a balance Joey Colao INRW 0302
Being a freshmen, I know one way that has certainly helped me cope is by breaking down each of my assignments and having a clear schedule of when I need to do them.
I agree, I think doing your work on a daily/weekly schedule will help you be more prepared for your classes. That can help relieve some of the stress from home as well if you are having stress.
I agree making a schedule will always help us to remember everything what we have to during the week and it is important to keep up with everything and not leaving everything at the last minute. By doing all the assignments will help us have a nice grade and have more time for us.
I agree with you to, the way I did it was on my days off school I would take 1 hour to take care of one class assignment and wait until my next day off to do the next assignment wich helped me out a lot. it helped me out because it didn't feel like a lot of work
I believe that if you have pressure/influence that is effecting your life at school and your a freshman just learning how everything works it can be hard. If you just take one day at a time and prioritize your schedule around school and family and maybe see a counselor as well you can get through this. Good Luck To Everyone Jennifer Withers Gust 0305
Students can deal with this by finding a balance between family and school, also they should stay away from the negative pressure/influences by getting out the house. Go to the school library, join a club or workout. Basically anything that keeps you away from the bad things at home .
I agree. I used to hang out with the wrong crowd a lot and my grades dropped badly. Once I started hanging with people who were more mature acted more educated and that influenced me to start focusing on school and stop hanging with the wrong crowd.
One way a college freshman can deal with family pressure or influences is talk to them about it. If they are having a problem with something and they keep it to themselves nothing is going to change. Family is family for a reason and they should be able to talk to them about anything. If they aren't comfortable with talking to a family member then they should go to a friend. I know when i'm having stress or personal problems i just like to vent to my friends. Its the best way to get something off my mind.
I agree, having communication with family and friends helps you and others refresh their mind and leave stress behind. Sharing your feelings and thoughts makes you feel better than keeping them with you. By doing this you can focus more in passing your classes.
If I were giving advice or advice was given to me it would be not to worry. No matter how life hits it's curve ball, by the end of the day it's all just you. Thinking about or worrying about things may be important "now", but what is really important is you and your goal. If your goal has changed, then don't ponder over it, do it. If your goal, your dream, is still the same. Then don't lose sight of it, and just do what you think is right for you.
A way new college freshman can face their problems just simply talk about problems with the family, or friends especially with the stresses in life. such as personal issues that the individual has to deal with, or just talk with someone about the problems and stresses in life to take off that weight that person is holding onto.
These days theres pressure from everything and family is a big one. One way college freshman can get away from all that pressure is to talk it out with a proffesor from school or a counselor. Especially college freshman cause they are new and sometimes they cant handle all the pressure.
I have a hard time to gout work at how with my son crouling around my house.I don't have time to join after school clubs so to release stress I go to work and do it by having some good laughts with good friends and coworkers. Monica Galindo INRW 0302
Lizeth Parras INRW 0302 By having a close group of friends that college freshman students can vent to about the situations that are going on at home. It is better for them to have somebody to talk to instead of going to school with all those different kinds of feelings that are happening.
One way a college freshman can deal with pressure can be by joining a club or practicing a hobby. Get involved with a group of people that will help you take your mind of things. Find something that interests you and helps you forget about whatever you’re stressing about. This is the best way to deal with stress, at the same time you will refuel your body with energy to keep having a successful year of college.
If a college freshman student is going through a lot of pressure or under an influence of family member, the student should look for a sport club or something he/she likes to do to keep his/her mind distracted .Also, meet new people that could help them to minimize the stress.
You are right, joining a club or group is a great way of taking your mind off any type of complication a college freshman could be facing. Meeting new people is also a good idea. Octavio Arteaga
To we a college student or a freshman is to much pressure to me I should join club or go to student center to have good grades. To not think if I'm falling class or if i have done bad homework. Parents want to us to have good grade to me is pressure, to have everything perfect. That's why is good to always ask for help and have new friend, to help each other.
One way freshman ignore family problems is to believe in yourself who you really are and leave all the negatives behind. I was always told I cant do anything but I never listened to those people because I am better than what the negative people told me. always have a positive attitude. Justin Pickell INRW
i think it always best to join a club in high school when i was doing bad i join club and i better myself i understand people stand on pressure but sometimes you cant let that get to you . you always have to have someone to help you that you can talk to and its always good to have that one activity that makes you feel better many negative things can happen but it takes a strong positive and willing person to get thru it.
I agree with joining a club to escape family pressure and stress. However, that isn't the only way someone would be able to feel pressure-free. Some people have special hang outs like maybe at a friend's house, a coffee shop, or at the library. Somewhere where someone can feel safe and not be easily bothered. For example, some students might like to drive the stress away. Meaning, if a student were to be bothered all day by their family, a good way to relieve stress is to take a quick drive around the city and take in the fresh air. Clubs is a great example to relieve pressure as well. Meeting new people and doing something you really enjoy.
Sometimes joining a club will help a kid who is going through a lot at home. Really, all you need is someone who you can trust and give them 100% the real you or someone that can relate to the same situation your in.
I for one know first hand how hard it is to be in school and have a lot of personal problems at home. It is very hard, but get involved, come to school on your days you don't class to be able to focus without a lot of interruptions around you. Once you commit to an education, the faster you can change your current situation for the better.
not every one is just that fortunate. situations can not just be taken care of by just going to school, you must manage your time to get around things. sometimes its very hard to manage time especially when there is not a lot of time between school and other things!!!
it s really hard to just be trown at a level of education of college coming from a high schooll that i blame my self for not trying the best thing is to know someone with college experince . like a friend or any family memeber who recently is in college . because stress builds up and with family you kinda let it out on them. the best thing is to get with other friends wh are in college and have like study dates or something.
I think if a new college student has a lot going on at home and is feeling a lot of pressure, they can deal with it by finding an outlet that will also benefit them educationally. If they don't want to be home, it might help them to join a club they are interested in at school. I'm not really sure why because it's feels very comfortable. I kept thinking about the future and where i would be with out an education. I don't have any pressure anymore about school. I worry about ME now.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of your pressure from your family and friends, do not focus on it. Always remember, if you work hard, you achieve and if you achieve you become successful in your future.

being a freshman is not to bad but it could be better its hard because its not high school and you don't have the support that you will pass no matter what you have to give it your all to pass. dealing with my family problems on top of school is a big big challenge for me but i have just learned ti brush it off and do all my school work and just deal with it later or get over it.

i understand were you're coming from, freshman year wasn't to bad for me either, and yes its way different then highschool, its all on you to make whats best for your future.

As far as trouble at home; find ways to get away from it while at the same time being able to do your homework at the same time find a balance

Good Luck To Everyone

ReplyDeleteAnnie Reeves

By having a close group of friends that college freshman students can vent to about the situations that are going on at home.

ReplyDeleteJustin Pickell INRW
i think it always best to join a club in high school when i was doing bad i join club and i better myself i understand people stand on pressure but sometimes you cant let that get to you . you always have to have someone to help you that you can talk to and its always good to have that one activity that makes you feel better many negative things can happen but it takes a strong positive and willing person to get thru it.
ReplyDeletesirena pena inrw 0302

ReplyDeleteChristina Honeycutt INRW 0302
I for one know first hand how hard it is to be in school and have a lot of personal problems at home. It is very hard, but get involved, come to school on your days you don't class to be able to focus without a lot of interruptions around you. Once you commit to an education, the faster you can change your current situation for the better.
ReplyDeleteSuzie Mitcham
not every one is just that fortunate. situations can not just be taken care of by just going to school, you must manage your time to get around things. sometimes its very hard to manage time especially when there is not a lot of time between school and other things!!!
DeleteMatthew Mikes INRW 0302
it s really hard to just be trown at a level of education of college coming from a high schooll that i blame my self for not trying the best thing is to know someone with college experince . like a friend or any family memeber who recently is in college . because stress builds up and with family you kinda let it out on them. the best thing is to get with other friends wh are in college and have like study dates or something.
