GUST 0305 Decision-Making Reflection
What was your prior knowledge about decision-making before our course? What you have learned about decision-making from our On Course text. Find one example of decision-making for each Wes Moore in chapter six of The Other Wes Moore, type the examples you find, include the page number for each example, and reflect on each of those examples.
Before this course, my prior knowledge about decision making was that you have to decide whether you want to do something right or wrong. From this course, I have learned that you can either listen to you victim language inside of you or you can listen to your creator language and do tasks the way you know thye are suppose to be done.
ReplyDeleteIn Wes Moore, there are many examples of decision making. Each Wes Moore makes different choices when faced with conflict. On page 113 Wes has to msake the decision whether or not to give to tell the suspicious man where he can get drugs at. Wes knew that the man may be an undercover cop or someone that the cops were using to track down drug dealers. Instead, he took the chance and placed drugs in a telephone booth and told the man that he could find them there. His decision ended up getting him arrested. This was not Wes' best decision, but yhe only cared about the money.
On pages 119-122 Wes and Dalio were being bullied by a group of men. Everywhere they went these men continued to follow them. They were calling Wes a nigger and throwing things at them. Wes had to make the decision to either assult them too or just walk away. Wes decided it was best to just walk away. In the end that was the best decision. They a different way back to the Military Academy and wasnt assulted by the men anymore.

Before this course my decision making was based on what is right and what is wrong. I have learned every decision you make in life really effects your future, so be careful on the decisions you make. Wes was given a decision to distribute drugs not knowing if the man was a cop or not and his bad decision making landed him in jail. Page 113
ReplyDeleteThe other Wes was given a decision when being approached by those men that were calling him names and threw a bottle at him. He choose to go back to camp as fast as possible instead of causing a fight which may have ended with him dead so he made a good decision. Jennifer Withers gust 0305
Before taking this class my desicion making was never the best, to be honest I was never good til I signed up to go to college and get my life on track. I always seemed to make quick desicions without thinking, so either later I didn't like what I did or some how it was so bad I regretted it. I have learned so far that every desicion I make is all up to me. I can't just go around blaming everyone because I mess up. It's up to me to make important decisions for my future and present times.
ReplyDelete"Wes's attendance became sporadic, and once his first child was born, he just stopped going." I can reflect on this because once I had my first and only daughter I dropped out of school. I never had time to catch up on school work so I was always behind. Pg110 Other Wes
"I felt like being at military school was keeping me in a bubble, ignorant from what's going on on the outside." I always thought that doing the right thing and going with the crowd would keep me away from all the fun in life..and that being in that weird time of my life I was always stuck in my head. And as it has turned out I was totally wrong.

Before this course my decision making was based on right and wrong. Now being in this course my decision making is that you can either listen to your victim language or your creator language and do the tasks the way they are supposed to be done. On page 113 he had to decide weather to sell the drugs to the man not knowing if he was a cup or a detective undercover. He placed the drugs in a nearby telephone booth and told the man he could find the drugs there. Which was not a good choice because he ended up in jail. On page 119 Wes was being followed by a group of men calling him manes and throwing things at him. Wes decided to walk away and leave it alone. He chose to go back to camp. That was a good decision he made.

Before taking this course I was making my decisions based on just my opinions I could think of from the top of my head. I was totally unaware that I had a victim way of thinking and a creator way as well. My decisions were very quick and easy, yet not very smart. Now I know that starting school was hard but is well worth it, and will deff pay off in the end. I am the only one that will be held accountable for my actions. Creator ways will always win over victim ways.
ReplyDeleteOn page 113 although Wes sknew "it was a risk" Wes still "yelled to the man, still wandering aimslessly around the block." knowing it could be a cop, he went for it because he needed money. Wes made a decision he could have prevented from getting in trouble. On page 119 Wes and Dalio began to get threatened by some guys. Seemed like everywhere they went these guys were there, a "sudden speeding car came roaring up behind us" and other ocassions too. Wes got hit by someone yelling "go home, nigger!" Wes got hit but made a decision to take that hit and walk away, rather than fighting with them.

Before taking this course i was making my decisions by whatever i found was the easiest thing to do and the quickest. I didn't really thought about what the consequences were going to be or how it might affect my future I just wanted to get whatever i had to do over with.
ReplyDeleteMy decisions weren't the greatest but now i find myself actually setting goals, prepearing myself for whats next, and I don't blame others for what i decided to do. I can honestly say that I'm not playin a victim role anymore.
On pg 113 Wes was having problems deciding wether or not to sell the drugs. He has done it before but yet he was unsure about this customer. "He paused, taking a second look at the man. Wes thought about the small change he was turning down. The man threw red flags, but Wes had dealt with people like that before and gotten away with it."
It show how Wes had a risky decision to make he knew what was coming yet he thought he could get away from the trouble if anything happened because of the previous escapes he had.

Before this course it was hard making decisions by myself and I had to keep relying on other people to help me with everything. I have learned that you could do a lot by yourself by just thinking thoroughly about something before making a wrong decision. One example from The Other Wes Moore was that the first Wes had to decide whether or not to go to his home and help everyone with all of their problems or stay in military school then go to a great university on pages 117 - 118. "Even though I'd grown to love military school, I still had mixed feelings about being there, and they were eating at me. I wanted to be home....". For the second Wes, he had to make the decision of whether he should go to Job Corps and get an honest job or take care of his kids, girlfriend, and mother on pages 139 and 140. "Wes pondered other reasons to be doubtful about Job Corps. He had two babies' mothers, four kids, and his mother to take care of." He chose to go to the Job Corps and he got a degree and a job after that showing us that it was the right decision out of the two choices.

decisions made can permint if careful. On PG 113, Other wes decised to sell drugs, but he in the chapter he get caught by police.
ReplyDeleteBefore this course my decision making was based on an "in the moment" kind of idea. I just did what needed to be done. Now being in this course I make decisions after I analyze both sides. Pg.113 Wes he had to decide weather to sell the drugs or not. He analyzed both sides. Unfortunately, Wes didn't consider both sides carefully enough because he ended up in jail. But on pg. 119, wes was being taunted by a group of men who threw a bottle at him. Wes decided to walk away and not cause anymore trouble. Here, he chose the right decision.

My decisions in life had never been so grat till know because I was young and stupid I made sometimes wrong decisions but luckly my parents were always ther to guide me and give me advice. Know I'm more mature and know how to make the right decisions instead of the bad ones. On Page 115-117 Wes is leaving to military school and isnt to shure because he had mix feelings but at the end he followd his heart and everithing turn out to be great for him.

Before becoming a part of this course, I can say that my decision making skills were not good at all. I feel as if before this semester i wasn't really putting in the effort that I should have been putting in. In other words, my priorities weren't straight. The incarcerated Wes decided to atop going to school and wasn't able to get his high school diploma, a decision encouraged by the birth of his first child. The successful Wes joined the army despite of his mixed emotions.
ReplyDeleteBefore taking this course, i was never good at making the right decisions. I should have been going to school while i was taking care of a loved one. It didn't feel right at the time. My life wasn't what i wanted it to be. Now i think more clearly about certain things that are important to me. Wes couldn't get his life in order he kept making the wrong decisions. Pg. 114 Wes ended up going to military school and turned his life around.

Before taking this course I was making my decisions based on just my opinions what i needed to do to get something done on time or if i wanted to go to a party or stay home and study. but learning now that there is victim and a creator side to yourself and i have both at times i want to say good things and think good things but sometimes i am so down and hurt i cant help but be a victim

Before taking this course i was making decisions by finding what was the best thing to do and the easiest. I didn't really think about the outcomes and how it might affect my future I just wanted to get whatever i had to do over with.
ReplyDeleteI havent made the best decisions but I still hold myself accountable for my actions, organizing myself for whats next, and I hold myself responsible for my actions. Im not in the victim role anymore I can tell you that.
On pg 113 Wes had the choice to sell or not to sell the drugs. The guy was suspicious that was buying the drugs. "He paused, taking a second look at the man. Wes thought about the small change he was turning down. The man threw red flags, but Wes had dealt with people like that before and gotten away with it."
This showed how gullible Wes is and show how ignorant his decisions.

My prior knowledge of decision making used to be really bad i would make all of my decisions without thinking about them.I learned that I am going to make mistakes and I have to learn from them. On page 113 Wes Moore was deciding wether to sell or not sell drugs to the man, Wes wasn't thinking of the consequences of his actions.
ReplyDeleteEric Palomar GUST 0305
My prior knowledge about decision making, was do what's best for you. I didn't have any clear logic behind it, without any thoughts on how it would affect me in the future. For example, on pg. 113 Wes Moore had the decision wether or not to sell drugs. Wes didn't have any sort of thought on his consequences for his actions. Bieng in this course, I've learned how to effectively make decisions.

Before taking this class my decision making was terrible, i would make my decisions without thinking what might happen, and how it might affect me. As a result sometimes ill make the right ones and sometimes ill make the wrong one. In pg 113. Wes Decided to sell the drug to the unknown guy, he didn't really think; all he wanted was the money for his date later on that day,as a result the unknown guy was a cop and Wes went to jail. Wes made a bad choices. On pg. 119, Wes was being taunted by a group of men who threw a bottle at him. Wes decided to walk away and not cause anymore trouble. Here, he chose the right decision. Being part of this class i am learning to make decisions a whole lot better.

I've always been smart in the past when making decisions. Every time i've been approached with something i'm not sure about i always knew to say no. If I wasn't okay with it then i wouldn't need time to think about it. On page 113, the other Wes had the decision to sell drugs to a random man on the street. Making the choice he did, he's now back in prison. On page 121, Wes and his friend Dalio were on their way to get some pizza when a speeding car pulled up behind them and a bunch of drunkards were in the car yelling at Wes screaming, "Go home, nigger!" When Wes turned to see who screamed he got hit in the face. Wes made the decision to get back to campus and not fight. Being in this course has really proved to me how you should make your decisions. Think before do something.
ReplyDeleteAnnie Reeves
Before this course my decision making wasn't always the best, I think I made the choices my friends made. Which actually were never really good ones. I've realized that if I want to be successful I need to do things the way I want and that I can't do what everyone else is doing because it isn't always the way to go. on pg 113 Wes decided to sell this man the drugs, he was clearly more interested in getting the money knowing all the clues were right there. He should've really thought of the consequences and thought it through before actually doing it.

Before taking this course my decision making was horrible. For example I wouldn't do homework nor pay attention class. Now I'm more of aware of what I need to do and how not to stay off track. On pg 113 Wes Moore had the choice of selling the drugs or not. He didn't really think of the consequences.
